INTRODUCTION

 1 KINGS 18:17 – 46. MARK 1:35 – 39,
The altar of any powerful man or woman of God is not the pulpit or crusade ground where miracles, signs and wonders are taking place. But their altar is always in a solitary or hidden place.
Miracles signs and wonders are by-product of a continuous and consistent prayer altar.
At the foundation of every altar is RELATIONSHIP built as a result of personal ENCOUNTER.
Faith is a major ingredient in building and sustaining an altar of prayer (Hebrew 11:6)
Altar is a placed of sacrifice. Be ready to sacrifice your will, ego, poise, bold front or pretence, wisdom, time, even yourself (Rom 12:1). If you are not ready to sacrifice then you cannot build and maintain an altar.
For us to have an effective prayer we need FERVENCY SUPPLIED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT (ROM 8:11, 26)
You are now the altar of God, offering spiritual sacrifices constantly

FEW EXAMPLES OF THOSE WHO BUILT AN ALTAR AND THE RESULTS

NOAH (GENESIS 8:20 – 22), he built an altar immediately after the flood, and this made GOD determined in His heart not to curse the ground any longer and not to destroy the earth with flood again. The implication of this is that when altar is raised it affects you, your family and even generation to come. Because of that single act God allow the ground to begin to yield so far we can sow, "SEED TIME AND HARVEST TIME WILL NOT SEEZE"

ABRAM (GENESIS 12:7 – 8, 13:18). After GOD appeared to Abram because of that encounter with God, Abram built an altar and when he moved to Hebron he also built an altar unto God. The implication of this is that everlasting covenant was birthed through this communion.

ISAAC (GENESIS 26:25) built an altar, called upon the Lord and pitched his tent there. The result of this is that king Abimelech with some other people went to make peace with him because they said we saw that God was certainly with you.

JACOB (GENESIS 35:1,3,7, 9 – 15), God commanded him to build altar instead of the pillar he erected, and when he built the altar God bless him, multiply and transfer the covenant he had with Abraham and Isaac to him.

Moses, Gideon, David, etc

WHY DO WE NEED TO BUILD AN ALTAR OF PRAYER (1KINGS 18:17 – 46)
It is the secret place of the most high (Psalm 91 : 1)
It is a place of authority and decision
It is a place of training and empowerment
It is a place of discovery (God’s character, His will, your destiny and purpose will be disclosed to you)
It is a place where faith is built, confidence and trust develops. (overtime doubt will completely disappear)
It is a place where one gets assurance that it shall be well. The future is secured as long as God lives.
There are different types of altar (ACTS 17:16, 21 – 23; 1CORINTHIANS 10:18 – 22). We need to raise an altar of PRAYER so that we will not become a PREY on the altar of satan.
The world is full of wickedness (James 5:19), people want to succeed at all cost, devil is requesting from their hand blood and lives of people (yahoo plus).
There is Competition in the world, you need to have something extra and powerful than what the people of the world have to be above them (Daniel 6:1 -10)
There are other altars being built on a daily basis. The people of the world are not joking with their altar because they know the implication. So it is your duty and my duty to destroy every altar that is raised contrary to the will of God over your lives, family, nations, etc.
