TAKE CARE OF YOUR 'EARTHSUIT' (BODY) - HEALTH CORNER
In a recently completed Believers' Conference, Bishop
Francis Wale Oke in his "7 vitals for champions" sermon gave an
outstanding illustration about our health. After he talked about our walk with
God as number one, he put the second most vital thing as "our
health". Because a large percentage of people at the meeting were young
people, some of us found it interesting that he should say so.
He explained further with the illustration of an
astronaut who has to work in space. He won't go walking on planet Mars in jean
trousers and a 'Mark Zuckerberg' t-shirt. He will have to go to space in a SPACESUIT. The spacesuit doesn't only
protect him from space dust and harsh conditions, the suit also holds water and
oxygen that he needs to survive while he's still in space.
The spacesuit extracts carbondioxide that He doesn't
need and gives him a sense of balance on another planet. He won't need it once
he's back to earth because he can survive here without it. The astronaut also
knows that he can't let anything bad happen to his spacesuit because he knows
they are not sold in Yaba market or any other market on planet earth.
Spacesuits are specially and carefully designed to serve their purpose so that
there's no "wardrobe malfunction” when you get to space.
Your body is your EARTHSUIT.
You are a spirit that has a soul but lives in a body. Your body has been
"fearfully and wonderfully" designed to help you perform God's duty
here on earth. Your body is where you live till you die; when it now returns to
dust. Take EXTRA CARE of your body.
Watch what you feed it. Junk food is "expensive
harm". Sometimes it costs less to buy carrots and mangoes than to sit
in a fancy restaurant and eat a piece of everything fried and baked on their
fancy shelves. Fruits and vegetables are not just for the elderly. You owe
it to your body to feed it right. Excess fat is no longer an evidence of
good living. It is a sign of careless feeding. Exercises and regular workouts
are no longer for building muscles alone. They help you burn excess calories
that your body does not need. Because you probably have to sit in front of a
computer screen all day, and sometimes sit in traffic all night and rest by "sleeping all weekend",
excess calories look for a comfortable place to settle in your body.
For the ladies, being volumptous is attractive but it
doesn't necessarily mean being healthy. After menopause, your legs may be too
weak to carry that weight on your hips. So you should decide now what you want
to feed your body. Losing weight is not just about losing a dress size. It is
also about feeling lighter and more comfortable.
For every young person who says #YOLO.. yes, YOU ONLY LIVE
ONCE. Because Hebrews 9:27 says "And it is appointed unto men ONCE to
die, but after this the judgement". But living once should not
mean exposing your body to every kinds of assault, getting wasted with alcohol
and drugs, eating anything you are offered, or even subjecting your bodies to
sexually perverted activities. Remember that sexually transmitted diseases,
hypertension, diabetes are some of the consequences of some of these wrong
doings.
The bible calls fornication a sin against your own body. You clearly do not want to be sick when you ought to be
relaxing in the Bahamas with your spouse and grandchildren after a week long of
preaching the gospel, or at your retirement.
Remember that once your body is tired and worked out,
you may not be able to live to the fullest, the life God has called you to
live; and once its gone, your spirit won't be roaming about the earth. It will
go back to the maker. So take care of your earthsuit because like the
spacesuit.
